Papugai's passion for photography started even before we were a company. Our founder grew up in a home where professional-level photography was the standard, even for family pictures on the wall. Ellen Lewis, Papugai's senior photographer and Mother to founding partner, Matt Lewis, played a more active role in Papugai's culture during the first half of our company's 20 year history. More recently, however, Ellen's role at Papugai has decreased, giving way to her life-long passion of world travel, architecture, exotic wildlife and international culture and, of course, her grandchildren. In that light, Ellen has circled the globe many times in search of extraordinary images on every continent. She was the first woman to set foot on certain islands in Antarctica. In the proud tone of her son, Matt Lewis, "She hangs from thousand-foot waterfalls and crawls through holes under the Earth with God-only-knows what other creatures — just to get 'that perfect shot.' I don't know how she stays alive from year to year. I certainly couldn't venture, even once, what she does without even thinking." The vast majority of her work is available for sale as either framed custom prints, or electronic, high-resolution stock. Papugai also has staff photographers who do brilliant work as well. In 2007, Mike Wilson joined our team and has produced some amazing images for our clients. Papugai's standards for photography are the highest in the industry. Our fees are conservative compared to contract photographers, and our licensing guidelines are broad and generous — but our results stand far above any standard we have seen in recent years.
